If you visit Thailand, there are some things you absolutely deserve more attention than others. Among these are with no doubts the floating markets. In Thailand they are a real institution, almost as much as the Grand Palace in Bangkok.
They are real markets on the water, where dozens of canoes full of fruits and vegetables are pushed with the paddle by women with large straw hats, and cross along the canals creating a surreal traffic.
Sounds, colors and smells of these markets are unmistakable.
Unfortunately in the recent years these places have become too touristy that made them lose the authenticity of the real exchange of goods between the Thais, who slowly have moved to the countryside to continue with their daily commercial activities.
However visit a floating market is a must-to-do experience.
To enjoy them in the best way, as many suggest to do, it would be better to go to the market at early morning, when the activities start to open and you are not overrun by the crowd of crazed tourists coming from many daily tours.

Se visitate la Thailandia, ci sono alcune cose che meritano assolutamente più attenzione di altre. Tra queste ci sono senza dubbio i mercati galleggianti. In Thailandia sono una vera e propria istituzione, quasi quanto il Gran Palazzo di Bangkok.
Si tratta di veri e propri mercati sull’acqua, dove decine di canoe cariche di frutta e verdura spinte con la pagaia da donne con grandi cappelli di paglia, si incrociano lungo i canali creando un surreale traffico.
I rumori, i colori e gli odori di questi mercati sono inconfondibili.
Purtroppo negli ultimi anni questi luoghi sono diventati troppo turistici e hanno perso l’autenticità del vero scambio di merci tra i thailandesi, i quali un po alla volta si sono spostati in campagna per continuare con la loro quotidiana attività di compravendita.
A ogni modo, visitare un mercato galleggiante resta un’esperienza assolutamente da provare.
Per godervela nel migliore dei modi, come molti consigliano di fare, sarebbe meglio recarsi al mercato all’alba, quando le attività un po alla volta aprono e non si viene ancora inghiottiti dalla folla di turisti impazziti provenienti dai numerosissimi tour organizzati.

Amphawa Market (from 16pm to 21pm, Fri-Sun)
The Amphawa market in the province of Samut Songkhram, not far from Bangkok, takes place only during the weekend, and lives around the center of this small town. Here you can find mainly food and any kind of souvenirs. In fact, this is a very busy market by tourists that come from Bangkok for a daily visit. You can reach it from the Samut Songkhram market area.
Mercato di Amphawa (dalle 16 alle 21, ven-dom)
Il mercato di Amphawa, nella provincia di Samut Songkhram, non molto distante da Bangkok, si svolge solamente durante il weekend, e ruota attorno al centro di questo piccolo paese. Qua potete trovare prevalentemente alimentari e souvenirs di qualunque genere. Infatti, questo è un mercato molto frequentato dai turisti provenienti da Bangkok per una visita in giornata. Si raggiunge dalla zona del mercato di Samut Songkhram.
Tha Kha Market (from 7am to 12, 2nd -7th -12th days of the waxing and waning moon, plus Sat and Sun)
Also this market is in the province of Samut Songkhram, and is the most authentic floating market, as well as the most difficult to reach (by pick up from the Samut market area). The traders are located along a canal surrounded by old wooden houses and coconut palms. There is the possibility to take boat tours for few Baht.
Mercato di Tha Kha (dalle 7 alle 12, 2°-7°-12° giorno di luna crescente e calante, più sab e dom)
Anche questo si trova nell provincia di Samut Songkhram, ed è il più autentico mercato galleggiante, nonché il più difficile da raggiungere (tramite pick up dalla zona del mercato di Samut). I venditori si trovano lungo un canale che ha come scenario vecchie case in legno e palme di cocco. C’è la possibilità di organizzare giri in barca per pochi Baht.
Damnoen Saduak Market (from 7am to 12, every day)
This is the oldest floating market of the country. Unfortunately it has become over time a real theme park for tourists, and now most of the traders sell souvenirs on the banks of the canal, that can be visited by foot or by boat. Perhaps the most interesting part of a Damnoen Saduak tour is the excursion along the residential canals behind the market, where the real Thai life goes on undisturbed. To reach it there are several minibus from the Victory Monument in Bangkok direct to Thonburi, from where depart regularly those for Damnoen.

Questo è il mercato galleggiante più antico di tutto il paese. Purtroppo è diventato nel corso del tempo un vero e proprio parco a tema per i turisti, e oramai la maggior parte dei venditori espone souvenirs sulle sponde del canale che è possibile percorrere sia a piedi che in barca. Forse la parte più interessante di un tour a Damnoen Saduak è l’escursione lungo i canali residenziali attorno al mercato, dove la vera vita thailandese prosegue indisturbata. Per raggiungerlo partono dei minibus dal Victory Monument a Bangkok diretti a Thonburi, da dove partono regolarmente quelli per Damnoen.
Market Taling Chan Market (from 7am to 16pm, Saturday and Sunday)
It would seem a market like the others, with sellers that exchange their products of their farms. Its uniqueness lies in the floating docks used as informal resturants, with cuisines placed directly on the canoes. Taling Chan is located in Thonburi and you can reach by bus from the Wongwian Yai BTS station. Otherwise there is the possibility of hiring a lob-tail boat for a tour, from any pier in Bangkok.

Sembrerebbe un mercato come gli altri, con venditori intenti allo scambio di prodotti provenienti dalle fattorie. La sua particolarità invece sta nei pontili galleggianti adibiti a ristoranti informali, con cucine sistemate direttamente sulle canoe. Taling Chan si trova a Thonburi e si può raggiungere con l’autobus dalla stazione BTS di Wongwian Yai. Altrimenti c’è la possibilità di noleggiare una lob-tail boat da qualunque molo di Bangkok per un’escursione.
